I think you're right that Mar-kes had onion or onion powder in it. If my recollection is correct, I'd say the flavor of the sauce at Cielito Lindo's might be the closest, although the Mark-es sauce tended to vary from package to package. Jalapenos, fresh not canned or pickled, 15%. cilantro, 5%. The rest is the broth from the tomatillo to desired thickness , salt and garlic.<br /><br />All the ingredients are fresh , not canned or frozen.<br />the Tomatillo and jalapenos are stewed but not boiled or the tomatillo will disintegrate.<br /><br />For best results buy a small stone grinder called a "molino" in spanish. A blender can't quite get the proper consistency.<br /><br />The tomatillo. avocado and cilantro are fed into the molino along with the tomatillo broth and a bit of salt and garlic. The best, and believe me, I know taquitos are to be found at the Cafe San Pedro on Carson in Hawaiian Gardens. CLUE: I'm usually the ONLY english speaker in the place! <BR/><BR/>They're awesome. Five crispy taquitos served on a plate with a heap of lettuce, mexican cream and crumbled mexican white cheese. The guacamole is plopped on the side.
